More guests have arrived!

We have more visitors that arrived to share in our summer adventures with us...we are just so happy to be able to host our Flat Travelers friends.

Flat Charlotte

Flat Akladybug

We have planned that we will be making tacos tonight for supper, and we will be taking photos of all our flat travelers helping make tacos.  We thought that we would share in a Mexican theme dinner tonight!

One of our geography projects is studying Mexico and learning some simple spanish words.  We have many friends who travel to Central America and have learned spanish that we thought it would be helpful to learn this language.  So while our Flat Travel Guests are here , they will be sharing in our Mexican lessons and spanish language course!

All of our Flat Visitors arrived in time to celebrate with us a huge turkey dinner.  It was great!  We cooked up a turkey, with mashed potatos , green beans and made a nice salad.

We will be sending home with the Flat Travelers recipes in their Travel Scrapbooks  of various meals that they shared while staying with us!

Flat Stone Craft

I found this craft on the Enchanted Learning website.

Canadian Pebble Craft

You can paint a river rock to make a wonderful patriotic pebble. They make great paperweights or decorations.

Supplies needed:

  • A smooth, flat, elongated pebble (make sure it's clean)
  • Pencil
  • Red and white tempera paint
  • Brushes
  • Acrylic varnish or other shiny finish (optional)
Choose a smooth, flat, elongated river rock and clean it
Paint the rock's top white. Let the paint dry.
Paint red stripes on both ends of the rock.
Paint a red maple leaf in the white central area.

If you'd like a shiny finish, coat with an acrylic varnish after the paint has dried completely.

Flat Cat Craft Activity

Flat Cat Craft for Kids- You can use this cute little cat to play a word game that teaches your children words that rhyme with “cat”.  Children will love making their own flat cats to take home and help them learn to read.

What you will need: Two or three Styrofoam dinner plates or heavy duty paper plate for each cat, one small paper plate, acrylic paint, glue or staples, large paper clip, and sticky note paper or plain paper.

What to do:

  1. Cut out legs, ears, and a tail from one paper plate or a Styrofoam tray. I cut the feet from around the rim of the paper plate so that they naturally bend down. Try not to have the feet and tail stick out too far.  This makes it harder to spin because the tail and legs keep bumping on things.
  2. Glue or staple the legs and tail to the top of one plate.
  3. Cover that paper plate with another paper plate to form the cats body. The plates should be glued or stapled top to top.
  4. Fold the small plate in half to form the cats head.  Glue ears to the head at the fold.  Glue the head to the body.
  5. Paint the cat.

Flat Craft- Canada Day Craft

We found this craft on the Enchanted Learning Web Site

String of Leaves

Make a string of leaves to decorate a room. These simple-to-make strings make a great Fall or Thankgsiving decoration. You can drape the strings across rooms, over windows and from the chandeliers.
More Kinder Crafts

Supplies needed:
  • Construction paper (orange, red, yellow, brown, and other earth tones)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue, tape, or staples
  • A long piece of green or brown yarn or string

Draw a leaf on a piece of construction paper. Make sure to draw a thick stem on the top (your leaf will hang from this stem, which will be folded over). If you'd like, use a leaf template.
Cut out the leaf. Draw the leaf veins if you wish.

Fold the leaf's stem in half.

Attach the leaf to a long string using tape, glue, or staples. Make more leaves and attach them to the string.
